The smile stays. The story changes.
ENVY’S GOLDEN CHILD
Before the broadcast
Benny grew up in Envy’s spotlights as a golden child and mentor to Callum McLeod. He later moved on to host the game show. Little else about his past is known.
A smile for every question
Charming, clever, witty, and easily amused, Benny enjoys being the host and is content to stay there. When asked how he got the job, he offers increasingly absurd, far-fetched stories. He does the same with any question he does not want to answer, continuing until the questions stop. The smile never leaves his face; afterward, he carries on as though nothing happened.
His show. His rules.
Benny does not necessarily play, but he chats with contestants during their games and invents rules as they go, keeping everyone on their toes. His connections in Envy help him generate interest in new productions.
LIFE SENTENCE frames five games over five days as a trial, with one game each day. Opening Statements is the fixed opener; Closing Arguments is the fixed finale. The show is televised and recorded, with recordings scattered to draw a new group toward the next production.

AFTER THE APPLAUSE
The audience stays.
At the welcome, Benny says, "Only one of you is going home a winner," with a strange pause and a smile that slips before he snaps back to showman. It sounds like normal game-show talk. Contestants do not learn that losers stay until the first game begins, and by then the doors are already locked.
The ones who don't make it never leave. They become the studio audience for every cast that follows. Contestants can't hear them while they play, unless they happen to be a medium or unusually sensitive to the dead, but viewers at home hear every gasp in post. The crowd rotates now and then, and the camera never once catches a clear face.
HOUSE RULES
Benny writes the rules as he goes. He'll chat with contestants mid-game, change the stakes on a whim, and smile the whole time. The winner may choose to bring one surviving loser home. Just one: a pardon granted by someone who played the game.
LIFE SENTENCE
Every contestant's life changes forever. Losers serve a literal life sentence: they never leave the studio and become the audience for future casts. The winner's reward is its own sentence. They must live with whatever they wished for and what they did to get it. Residence in Greed can prevent departure; some never leave the studio, and the winner never really leaves it either. Benny never lied about the name. It was right there on the marquee.
BEFORE THE LIGHTS
Benny grew up in Envy as everyone's golden child, the one people measured themselves against. Years later, he took a young child star named Callum McLeod under his wing and taught him everything he knows about the spotlight: how to smile, how to shine, and how to never let the cameras see you sweat.
